The Weeknd has completed the rebirth of his real life name Abel Tesfaye with the release of his latest album "Hurry Up Tomorrow," marking the new era of his career.
"Hurry Up Tomorrow" is the last part of the second trilogy of Abel's album series with "After Hours" released in 2020 and "Dawn FM" being dropped in 2022.
In 2023, The Weeknd teased the idea with changing his name on his social media back to Abel Tesfaye hoping to veer away with his moniker.
In this album, Tesfaye has accomplished tackling his struggles on love and on the industry as he seeks for change in his life.
The Weeknd sets the tone with the help of French electronic duo Justice through "Wake Me Up," establishing yet another retro vibe throughout the album.
He expressed his longing for someone with "Cry For Me" then transitioned with a club sound with "I Can't F*****g Sing" to smoothly go to "São Paulo" feat. Brazilian singer Anitta, admitting he has not yet moved on and concluding the part with an explosive outro "Until We're Skin & Bones".
Tesfaye admits his shortcomings as he struggles to live with "Baptized In Fear" then goes on to "Open Hearts" questioning himself if he's ready to love again for him to live.
"Opening Night" gave a glimpse of how The Weeknd struggles with his career and "Reflections Laughing" feat. American rapper Travis Scott and British indie rock band Florence + The Machines solidify his narrative on how he's having a hard time with his handling of the problem.
He stressed this further with "Enjoy The Show" feat. Future and it felt like he surrendered himself and let go with "Given Up On Me" with its calming shift saying "Oh Lord, I want your company".
The Weeknd shared his willingness to change with "I Can't Wait To Get There" while revealing how critics and the media painted him but he took a different turn with his hit single "Timeless" feat. Playboi Carti takes pride in how he survived the music industry.
He reflected anew on love with "Niagara Falls" and then realizing he's better with himself with "Take Me Back To LA" stressing the message of self-love.
"Big Sleep" feat. Giorgio Moroder built up his resurrection arc and asked for forgiveness with "Give Me Mercy" and his desire to continue on with his life and willingness to surrender with "Drive" and was in sorrow with "The Abyss" feat. Lana Del Ray.
Abel's rebirth came with "Red Terror" concluding "call me by the old, familiar name" and "Without a Warning" stressing how people will love him regardless of what challenge he will face in the future.
He concludes strong with a gospel-like song "Hurry Up Tomorrow" seeing himself change and asking for guidance as he begins this new journey and goes to the outro synced to "High For This", the first track of his first extended play "House of Balloons" in 2011.
