More than 900 residents in Bago City, Negros Occidental who have been affected by Kanlaon Volcano's ashfall and the relentless rains received free medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a "24 Oras" report Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the foundation's Kapuso Kalusugan Karavan are husband and wife Rizaldy and Anne Velasquez, whose crops were destroyed by ash fall.
Per the report, Anne has a lump on her back and diabetes, but has been unable to take maintenance medication due to their meager earnings.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation provided free medical consultations, dental services, prescription eyeglasses, and hygiene kits to the residents of Bago City through the caravan.
"'Pag natamaan ka ng kalamidad like here, medyo mahirap maghanap ng medical aid. That’s why we really target remote areas," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP & COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog
A medical specialist was able to examine Anne and also prescribe her medication for her condition.
"Diabetes, ayun 'yung cause ng kaniyang pabalik-balik na infection sa likod. Every two weeks at least makapacheck sila ng sugar sa mga city health," said Bago City Health Office Medical Officer III. Dr. Elyssa R. Gonzales.
Another resident, Lyka Joy, also got her two-year-old child with hand, foot, and mouth disease examined by a doctor, while another, a farmer named Luciano, received a pair of prescription eyeglasses from GMA Kapuso Foundation's partner, Ideal Vision Center.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
