MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos led yesterday the kickoff celebration of Filipino Food Month, emphasizing the role of local cuisine in promoting tourism.

“These (Filipino foods) are important as we promote what we call experiential tourism. What does this mean? If a tourist visits a place, we don’t want him to just sit beside the beach and read a book, without doing anything,” he said.

Marcos added that tourists seek new experiences, making it essential to showcase the diversity of Filipino cuisine.?“If a foreigner eats delicious Filipino food, he also has an understanding of Filipino culture. I believe that food is the easiest way to show the importance of our culture,” the President added.

Marcos also underscored the contributions of individuals involved in food production and preparation.?“These include our farmers, fisherfolk, our workers in the food industry, including your favorite cook in the canteen, we should praise and thank them,” Marcos added.

To further stabilize prices and increase local production, the President assured the public that the government is working to ensure food security through various programs.

These include the Kadiwa program, the P29 program, the Rice-for-All program, the implementation of a maximum suggested retail price for pork products and the allocation of funds for agricultural initiatives.
