MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Grace Poe has expressed alarm over the case of missing cats at a condominium in Pasig.

The group “Cats of Satori” – formed by cat lovers of Satori Residences – said “a number of community cats we’ve cared for have gone missing – some quietly, others under unclear and concerning circumstances” from January to June this year.

The missing cats are Lucy, Pia, Abner, Darcy, Albus, FC, Bella, Luna, Ginger, Pearl, Atlas, Hershey and Carrot, according to the group’s social media card on Facebook.

“We don’t know. But we know this: they matter,” the group said.

Poe, who sponsored in the Senate the approved bill seeking to add more teeth to the Animal Welfare law, said “the plea of condominium owners in Pasig City about their missing cats should not fall on deaf ears.”

She lauded the Pasig condo residents’ group for taking care of their feline friends, who found a home there, protected from Metro Manila’s concrete mess.

Not only did they feed the cats, they also spayed and neutered them, contributing to the control of animal population, Poe said.

“Before us are families who have created a responsible and compassionate pet caring community in the middle of the urban jungle,” she said.

“The group deserves an explanation from the property management on the disappearance of the cats,” Poe added.

According to the group, there is an “absence of clear communication” from the Property Management Office about the fate of the missing cats.

The condo management has denied involvement in the disappearance of the community cats, but the group said there should be an “immediate and impartial review” of closed circuit television footage.

“These cats are not pests. They are sentient beings who have quietly lived among us and who, in many ways, have brought the community together,” the group said.

“Their lives matter. Our voices matter. And we will continue to speak – because they cannot. Justice is what the Cats of Satori deserve,” it added.

The group said the disappeared cats were “victims of heartlessness” and “innocent beings simply hoping for a place to belong.”

“This place, once filled with the joyful taps of their paws, is now heavy with hurt and unanswered questions. We’re so sorry this world was unkind to you. You all deserve gentleness, peace and a loving home. We will never stop searching and fighting for you,” the group added.

Poe called on barangay officials to help locate the missing cats and find out “who are behind their vanishing.”

“The promotion of animal welfare and the culture of care and concern for them is a shared responsibility,” she said.
