Tokyo is a city of contradictions. Its neon-lit intersections hum with urgency while just beyond the chaos, time slows to a contemplative hush. Tradition and modernity exist side by side, not in conflict, but in conversation. This tension, this balance, is at the heart of Onitsuka Tiger’s fall/winter 2025 Yellow Collection, unveiled at Milan Fashion Week.
A new aesthetic emerges from this interplay: a fusion of contrasts, where British countryside elements meet urban edge, and Western influences are softened by romantic flourishes. The silhouette is lean, precise. Cropped pea coats and tailored suits in soft wool or micro-houndstooth nod to classic menswear while gorpcore-inspired zip-ups and oversized cardigans shift the mood toward something more relaxed. Unisex at its core, the collection leaves room for individual style to take the lead.
Elsewhere, pleated silk skirts and delicate lace-trimmed blouses add a whisper of nostalgia, tempered by the ruggedness of waxed cotton jackets and Texan-heeled boots cinched at the ankle. Even muscularity finds a place in the collection’s cropped wool jackets, embroidered with cowboy motifs in round bugle beads, drawing from tradition while feeling entirely of the moment. Synthetic leather outerwear, polished to a modern sheen, completes the transformation.
Footwear follows the same thread of reinvention. Ballet flats with metal toes and studs add bite to their delicacy. The brand’s archival weightlifting shoes, reimagined in lace-up leather, blur the line between past and present. Even the iconic Mexico 66 sneaker—this time encrusted with crystal studs—takes on a glimmer of ’80s pop. The accessories are equally decisive: a structured bowling bag, now with a shimmer of embellishments, and a new mini pochette with oversized straps, poised for cult status.
On the front row, the collection found its audience among global style icons. MOMO of TWICE, Heart Evangelista, Thai actor Gulf Kanawut, Korean star Wi Hajun, Chinese actor Ziyi Wang, and Australian actress Phoebe Tonkin lent their presence to the evening, the air perfumed with Onitsuka Tiger’s signature scent, a parting gift to those who entered its world, if only for a night.
