Josh Santana, best known for singing the Tagalog version of the “Meteor Garden” theme song “Can’t Help Fallin’,” joined the public in honoring Barbie Hsu.
In an Instagram Reel, the now doctor appeared in his medical scrubs and sang an acapella version of the iconic track.
The former singer-actor said in his caption that he has been asked to sing this song many times before, but couldn’t because of his busy schedule.
“However, I can no longer keep an entire generation of Meteor Garden fans waiting most especially now that we all would like to pay tribute to the one and only Barbie Hsu who gave life to the character of Shan Cai,” Josh said.
“I join you guys in remembering this great icon Barbie Hsu,” he added. “Thank you Barbie!! Rest in peace.”
Josh, now known by his real name, Dr. Michael Palmunar, is a licensed physician. According to a 2024 Instagram post, he works in emergency medicine.
Aside from being a singer, he was the former loveteam partner of Carol Banawa.
It was announced on February 3 that Barbie passed away due to influenza-induced pneumonia. She was 48 years old.
Tributes poured in from Barbie’s fellow artists and “Meteor Garden” fans for their beloved Shan Cai.
Dong Shan Cai was the fierce main character in the series. It follows the life of Shan Cai, and her encounters with four wealthy boys, Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Xi Men (Ken Chu), Mei Zuo (Vanness Wu), Hua Ze Lei (Vic Chou), at school.
Ken and Jerry posted individual tributes to the late star.
Rainie Yang, who played her best friend in the series, also honored Barbie.
