MANILA, Philippines — "Fallout" stars Walton Goggins and Aaron Moten dissect the work that goes into earning the music played in the show, be it the original score or curated soundtrack featuring songs from the 1940s and 1950s.
Based on the popular video game of the same name, "Fallout" is set in post-apocalypic United States following a nuclear holocaust where survivors navigate what remains in the wasteland.
The series' first season received multiple Emmy nominations — mostly in technical categories — including Outstanding Drama Series.
Walton, Aaron, and their co-star Ella Purnell sat down with Philstar.com during a media junket in Sydney, Australia, and discussed the score by Emmy-winning composer Ramin Djawadi and the song choices by the show's music team.
Aaron began by pointing out music isn't playing on set during production but shared an old adage he lives by given the "amazing" music behind them: How do we earn that music?
"We do really go for broke [and] push ourselves, we work tired and hungry, we got through a lot of loops to try and earn that kind of music," Aaron explained, adding the personal relief music gives him.

Walton, who received an acting Emmy nomination for the first season, gave credit to the original video games as a template, citing a directive from co-showrunner Graham Wagner not to use a song after a particular year.
Some of the licensed songs used are Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky" and "I Don't Want to See Tomorrow," The Platters' "Only You," Dinah Washington's "What a Difference a Day Made," and The Ink Spots' "We'll Meet Again."
The actor then reiterated that the people in charge — Graham, fellow showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and director-producer Jonathan Nolan — were there to "make cinema."
"Get your great filmmakers, just look them up, they all understand music and how it helps them tell the story. That's what it is," Walton ended.
The first season of "Fallout" dropped in full last year, but for the second season, Amazon Prime Video will have an episodic release beginning December 17.
