MANILA, Philippines — Party-list group Bayan Muna is not disqualified from the 2025 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) clarified on Sunday, May 11.
The poll body issued the clarification after several Facebook accounts circulated false information claiming that Bayan Muna had been disqualified from the polls.
Fabricated images, which appeared to mimic news articles from reputable outlets like Philstar.com, were shared on Facebook, falsely alleging the group’s disqualification and that votes for them would be invalid.

“Walang nilabas na resolution and Commission en banc na nagdidiskwalipika sa Bayan Muna party-list ngayong halalan at sila ay opisyal pa rin na kabilang sa listahan ng mga party-list groups na maaring iboto sa lunes,” the poll body said in a statement.
(The Commission en banc has not issued any resolution disqualifying the Bayan Muna party-list from the 2025 elections. It remains officially included in the list of party-list groups voters can choose from on Monday.)
The Comelec said that mimicking the style and format of an official document to make it appear as though it originated from a government agency is a “direct and blatant violation” of every Filipino’s right to accurate and truthful information, especially during the election period.
It also reminded the public that spreading false and alarming information is considered an election offense punishable under the Omnibus Election Code.
Meanwhile, Bayan Muna has filed a complaint against the Facebook pages involved and urged the poll body to take immediate action.
The group also called on the Comelec to act against individuals red-tagging Bayan Muna.
“There have been efforts by those who do not want Bayan Muna to regain its seat in Congress by portraying us as violators of election laws through supposed illegal posters, or violation of our criminal laws, and other forms of black-ops as a prelude to a disqualification case against us,” Bayan Muna, through its former representative, Neri Colmenares, said in their complaint.
“These attempts have failed and until now no disqualification case has been filed against us as we have always warned our members to assiduously abide by our election rules expecting these black propaganda and black-operations against us,” it added.
There are 156 party-list groups that will be competing for seats in the 2025 midterm elections.
The elections will be on Monday, May 12, with around 68.43 million Filipinos expected to vote.
