MANILA, Philippines — Thai stars Urassaya "Yaya" Sperbund and Nadech Kugimiya have begun to tie the knot, 15 years since starting their relationship and three years since their engagement.

The two actors held their first wedding in Nadech's hometown in Thailand's Khon Kaen Province in a cultural ceremony honoring their Thai heritage.

Both are half-European: Yaya is part-Norwegian while Nadech is part-Austrian and his adoptive father is Japanese.

The newly-weds donned local fabric outfits in accordance with Isan tradition and customs, leading to local media to dub it the "wedding event of the year."

Members of their family and peers were in attendance, including fellow Thai superstars and real-life couple Mark Prin and Kimberley Woltemas.

Two other weddings are planned in the future, one in Norway and another grander one in Bangkok, Thailand.

Yaya and Nadech got together a year after starring in the 2010 series "Duang Jai Akkanee."

Some of their dramas that aired in the Philippines include "Waves of Life," "Lom Surn Ruk," "The Rising Sun," "The Switch," "The Crown Princess" and the Thai adaptation of "My Love from the Star."
