MANILA, Philippines — Makati-based establishment Yardstick Coffee was the lone Philippine establishment that figured on the annual "The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops" list for 2026.
The list recognizes coffee stores around the world based on the following criteria: coffee quality, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, ambience and atmosphere, sustainability practices, food and pastry quality, and consistency.
Coffee enthusiasts publicly vote for their favorites based on their own experiences (worth 30% of the final selection) while a panel of esteemed specialty coffee experts and industry professionals will also evaluate nominees (the final 70%).
Yardstick landed at No. 34 on this year's list, dropping from No. 18 in 2025. Last year the establishment was accompanied by three other Philippine chains: El Union Coffee (No. 61), Single Origin (No. 83), and Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters (No. 86).
A description for Yardstick describes the chain as a specialty coffee roaster since 2013, "They create spaces and experiences for everyone to enjoy the coffee that they roast. They roast coffees for homes, restaurants, hotels, and cafes."
Topping the whole list was the United States' Onyx Coffee Lab in Arkansas followed by Tim Wendelboe in Norway.
El Salvador's Alquimia Coffee and Australian establishments Only Coffee Project Crows Nest and Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters round out the Top 5.
Singapore's Apartment Coffee at No. 6 and Malaysia's Story of Ono at No. 10 were the highest among 14 Asian coffee shops on the 2026 list.
