MANILA, Philippines — Television host Willie Revillame is overseeing the preparation of several minibuses for commuters to use for free while the country suffers a fuel crisis caused by the tensions in the Middle East.

Last March 24, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed a declaration placing the Philippines under a state of national energy emergency to prevent the worsening impact of fuel price hikes on transport, food and electricity costs.

The following day on his noontime variety show "Wilyonaryo," which was marking its second month, Willie shared that he and some friends pooled money to purchase minibuses.

"Abangan niyo... pinapa-condition lang namin at lalagyan ng sticker ng 'Wilyonaryo,' pag nakita niyo 'yun — libreng sakay — hopefully by next week magagamit," Willie said.

He later shared six minibuses are being fixed so far, each capable of carrying up to 23 passengers.

The host asked no pictures be placed on the vehicles to avoid any insinuation of an agenda, and that the idea is being pitched to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for the minibuses to be used on the EDSA Bus Lane.

Willie added that the initiative was an effort by the show as thought up by him and broadcast journalists Anthony Taberna and Reynante "JR" Langit after meeting at a party.

The vehicles will be used from Monumento in Caloocan to North EDSA, to SM Megamall and Starmall EDSA-Shaw, and SM Mall of Asia during rush hour.

"Ako na bahala sa gasolina, kami na bahala sa mga drivers para kumita [sila]," Willie said, reiterating that it was an initative of the show. — Video from the "Wilyonaryo" YouTube channel
