WATCH: Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on winning a third term and the fight to transform PH politics

'Let's not go looking for a savior,' says Sotto, fresh from his landslide victory over an opponent whose campaign spared no expense

MANILA, Philippines – Reelected Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has just pulled off a massive feat in local politics.

His slate, Giting ng Pasig, won all 15 posts up for grabs in the election, beating an opponent estimated to have poured at least a billion pesos into her campaign and whose slate included two entertainment celebrities.

The landslide victory shows how Pasigueños rallied behind Sotto’s reform and good governance agenda despite his opponents’ smear campaign to portray his leadership as inept and detached.

Rappler senior producer and reporter JC Gotinga caught up with Sotto just before his proclamation as the election’s winner, and asked him his thoughts about Giting’s successful campaign, his outlook for the future, and his sources of inspiration.
