Wanderland is almost here!
The music and arts festival will be holding its fifth edition on March 22 and 23, featuring a lineup of artists from various genres like Filipino city pop, to OPM rock, to experimental electronic, to bubbly dreamy tracks.
Right before you dance and cheer out at the concert grounds, here are some songs to add to your pre-festival playlist.
1. 92914 – 'Okinawa'
92914 can provide comfort and nostalgia like no other. Their heartfelt songs like "Okinawa" speak about feeling love for moments that are usually taken for granted, like being under the trees or by the sea.
2. Alyson – 'Kiliti'
"Kiliti" is the opening track of Alyson's latest album, "Definitely Love!" and with good reason. The Filipino city pop group captured the essence of kilig, the kind that makes you want to dance.
3. Chet Faker – 'Talk is Cheap'
Let "Talk is Cheap" introduce you to Chet Faker. The singer-songwriter showcases his heartfelt vocals with a beat that encompasses electronic and jazz genres.
4. Dayglow – 'Junior Varsity'
Dayglow goes slow in "Junior Varsity." From the 2019 "Fuzzybrain" album, the American indie pop act got real about being an outsider, the real world, inevitable change, and adulthood.
5. Hermitude – 'Midnight Terrain'
Hermitude, an Australian electronic duo, is not one to shy away from experimentation. "Midnight Terrain" is a great introduction to their sound, with them showcasing the range of their production skills in four minutes.
6. Mayonnaise – 'Kapag Lasing (Live)'
Mayonnaise's "Kapag Lasing Malambing," is a go-to for karaoke and jamming sessions, with its raw lyrics that have tugged at the heartstrings of Filipinos since its release in 2010. The live version at The Social House from 2018 features Monty Macalino's vocals very close to the studio recording, with a strong band, and even a part where he incorporates B.o.B. and Bruno Mars' "Nothin' On You."
7. Mindfreakkk – 'Have You Ever'
Mindfreakkk is a Thai artist who showcases her own take on the city pop genre. The song "Have You Ever" stays true to the genre's signature sound, but with lyrics that talk about being sad and isolated, but also hopeful that things will be okay eventually.
8. Nameless Kids – 'Gabi'
Nameless Kids, an alternative indie band, is a group that should not be slept on. One of their songs, "Gabi," is an upbeat track about unrequited feelings that showcases their skills in songwriting, production, and performing.
9. PRYVT – 'If It's Not You'
PRYVT (pronounced "Private") is known for their melancholic tracks. "If It's Not You" is an intimate look into yearning for somebody, but the circumstances just do not make the relationship work.
10. Regina Song – 'The Cutest Pair'
Regina Song makes songs straight out of your daydreams. "The Cutest Pair" is a bubbly song about having a crush and wanting to start a relationship with that person.
11. Sinosikat? – 'Praning'
"Praning" by Sinosikat? presents the band's signature soulful, jazz sound with playful raw lyrics and special storytelling by vocalist Kat Agarrado.
12. Urbandub – 'First of Summer'
"First of Summer" is one of Urbandub's most popular songs. Part of their 2005 album "Embrace," the rock song is an anthem for youth rebellion and freedom, and of course, summer love.
13. Varis – '0.01'
Varis—the newest addition to the Wanderland lineup—is one to watch out for. The song "0.01" has a slow, moving sound with heartfelt lyrics, fully in Thai.
14. Waiian – 'Motivational Quotes'
"Motivational Quotes" by Waiian only came out on March 7, a few weeks before Wanderland. The Filipino rapper brings a different flavor compared to his previous songs, showcasing a slower pop sound as he raps about his journey.
15. Yung Kai – 'Blue'
Chances are you've already heard Yung Kai's "Blue." The viral love song has been heard in thousands of posts thanks to its dreamy vibe fit for the soundtrack of your life.
