Arvin Tolentino, the most recent PBA Best Player of the Conference winner, says he's 'looking at everything,' including offers to play in foreign leagues

MANILA, Philippines – Arvin Tolentino said he is considering all options as he weighs in on staying with NorthPort in the PBA or taking his act overseas.

Tolentino on Friday, May 9, confirmed that he has received offers from foreign leagues after an impressive campaign last conference that saw him lead the Batang Pier to the semifinals for the first time in nearly five years and win his first Best Player of the Conference (BPC) plum.

“I’m still in talks with my team, with NorthPort. Nothing final yet. We’re on good terms,” said Tolentino after NorthPort absorbed a 105-104 loss to Meralco in the Philippine Cup on Friday, adding he told the Batang Pier management about the overseas opportunities.

“They’re very supportive and I appreciate that from them. But for now, nothing final yet. I’m still with the team.”

His contract with NorthPort ended in April, although it got extended for the remainder of the season-ending conference due to a league rule that renews expiring deals until the end of a tournament.

While Tolentino said playing abroad is in his bucket list, his “priority” is to continue his PBA career.

“This is still my dream, the PBA. I feel like I’m in good hands with NorthPort, with my coaches and the management. I’m in a comfortable situation, so to speak. Of course, I still want to play here. It is just hard to decide,” said Tolentino.

“I’m looking at everything, to be honest. Getting offers from overseas, that opportunity is hard to come by. At the same time, I also have an offer here in the PBA, with NorthPort. I’m still weighing my options.”

A member of the First Mythical Team last season, Tolentino solidified his status as one of the top PBA talents by becoming just the second Batang Pier player to win BPC after Christian Standhardinger.

Tolentino averaged all-around numbers of 20.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 18 games last conference.

His production, though, has been badly missed by NorthPort in the Philippine Cup as Tolentino sat out three of their first five games, including the loss to the Bolts, due to a hip flexor injury.

Without Tolentino, the Batang Pier currently hold a 1-4 record. – Rappler.com
