MANILA, Philippines — While Typhoon Tino has already exited the country, the death toll from its devastation continues to rise, with 188 people reported dead, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday, November 7.
A majority of these deaths came from Cebu, with 139 people dying in the province. The NDRRMC broke down the deaths as follows:
- Antique - 1
- Capiz - 3
- Iloilo - 1
- Guimaras - 1
- Bohol - 1
- Cebu - 139
- Leyte - 1
- Southern Leyte - 2
- Negros Occidental - 24
- Negros Oriental - 9
- Agusan del Sur - 6
Meanwhile, 135 people are still missing. A total of 79 people are still missing in Cebu, followed by 39 missing in Negros Occidental and 17 others in Negros Oriental.
The NDRRMC also recorded 96 people who were injured.
Over 2.2 million people have been affected by Tino, with more than 397,000 people still residing in evacuation centers.
A total of 123 areas were reportedly flooded. Around 9,585 houses have been damaged, with 81 infrastructure (government facilities, roads, bridges etc.) being damaged.
Damage to agriculture is estimated to cost around P10.615 million.
Vital services to several localities are still impacted, with 11 areas still without water. Some 22 other localities still have affected communication lines.
At least 64 cities and municipalities have declared a state of calamity.
The country is bracing itself for another looming threat, with a super typhoon rearing towards Luzon.
Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong is sitting on the border of the Philippine area of responsibility. State meteorologists predict that it will intensify into a super typhoon by Saturday.
