Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales in "The Loved One"

MANILA, Philippines — Viva Films' newest romance outing "The Loved One", the reunion film of Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis, just breached the P100 million mark at the box office.
The production company confirmed on social media that the film managed to gross P110 million in just nine days and is still drawing audiences worldwide on its second week.
While such a milestone is expected from such a film with two of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment, making the feat more impressive is that many cinemas were selling tickets with discounted prices.
SM Cinemas reportedly sold tickets to the movie for P275 in Metro Manila and P230 everywhere else, meanwhile the discounts offered by Robinsons Movieworld see buyers purchase tickets for as low as P99.
For comparison, movie tickets often go for P500 in regular cinemas. Specialized cinemas like IMAX and 4DX cost even more.
Ronald Arguelles, Viva Films' content aggregation chief, told Deadline that the film's ongoing success was a combination of the lower ticket prices, the pull of Jericho and Anne, and the stripped-down version of "Multo" by Cup of Joe.
The subject matter also came at a ripe time as "The Loved One" was released ahead of the Valentine's weekend.
"The narrative is tailored to resonate with a Filipino audience, capturing the essence of a generation seeking a poignant romantic drama with characters that reflect their own experiences," said Viva Films chief Vincent del Rosario while also praising reduced ticket sales and the lead performances.
The movie's director Irene Emma Villamor added, "The audience perceives the narrative and events depicted in the film as remarkably specific and personal, thereby rendering them relatable."
"The Loved One", which also stars Catriona Gray in her acting debut, is also screening in North America, the United Arab Emirates and Australia.
