Tanghalang Pilipino is closing its groundbreaking 38th Theater Season, REVOLT, with two of its powerful productions at the prestigious Arete in Ateneo de Manila University.
Kisapmata
Due to overwhelming demand, "Kisapmata," the critically acclaimed production that captivated audiences earlier in the season, will extend its run for two more weeks.
Adapted and directed by Palanca awardee Guelan Luarca, "Kisapmata" is an intense psychological thriller that brings to the stage a harrowing real-life tragedy, one that sheds light on the terrifying consequences of unchecked authority.
The play is based on Nick Joaquin’s non-fiction reportage, "The House on Zapote Street," first published in the Philippines Free Press Magazine in January 1961. It recounts a horrific familicide committed by a retired police detective, known in this adaptation as Tatay Dadong.
This tragedy is already immortalized in Mike De Leon’s 1981 film "Kisapmata." Now, Tanghalang Pilipino breathes new life into this haunting tale, offering audiences a raw and deeply unsettling theatrical experience.
"Kisapmata" has show dates from April 4 to 13.
Sandosenang Sapatos
Joining Kisapmata for a limited double feature run is "Sandosenang Sapatos," a heartwarming and award-winning musical that delves into the bonds of family and the dreams that shape us.
In this musical, audiences follow the journey of 12-year-old Susie, a girl who wishes to fulfill her shoemaker father's dream of having a ballerina for a daughter. However, she was born without feet.
Each year, on her birthday, Susie enters the world of enchanting shoes, where the Shoe Fairy gives her a pair of feet, allowing her to dance freely. But every time she leaves the enchanting world, she loses her feet and faces reality.
Packed with outstanding songs, acting, and choreography, "Sandosesang Sapatos" ensures that it is not only a treat for the eyes and ears.
