A replica of the famous Shroud of Turin is on display at a newly inaugurated museum in Quiapo, Manila, coinciding with the Feast of the Holy Face of Jesus.

According to CBCP News, the 4.4-meter-long image was created by American photographer Barrie Schwortz, who served as the official photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project in 1978.

Printed on cotton using laser technology, the full-size replica imitates the linen cloth bearing a faint image of a man. Some believe it to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy houses the original Shroud.

On Tuesday, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula inaugurated the Holy Face of Jesus Museum, which is located inside the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Face of Jesus congregation in R. Hidalgo Street in Manila's bustling Quiapo district.

Aside from the shroud, the museum also features other replicas and religious artifacts, and memorabilia of the congregation’s late founder, Mother Mary Therese Vicente.

The congregation received the replica in 2019, but only placed it on display as part of the exhibit on March 4.

There are plans to open the museum to the public next week, CBCP News said. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
