MANILA, Philippines — The Senate committee on public order will summon all law enforcement agencies in its investigation into the May 13 shooting, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said yesterday, stressing that President Marcos is being fed “wrong information.”

On Facebook live, Cayetano said the chamber has evidence contradicting the official findings of executive agencies and they would summon the National Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice, the Philippine National Police and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

“We have evidence. We will be forced to conduct a hearing on that. So, the committee on public order will hear. We’ll get to the bottom of this,” he said.

Reacting to the President’s recent expression of his disappointment at the Senate, Cayetano emphasized that an independent legislature is vital to preventing the unchecked concentration of authority within a single branch of government, citing unresolved national issues like the flood control scam and smuggling.

“I don’t think the President wants this. And I continue to extend a hand of working together professionally. But I really think he’s not getting the right information,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano also expressed disbelief that a massive budgetary anomaly like the flood control scam could exist without the involvement of executive officials.
