MANILA, Philippines — Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque belittled the government’s effort to return him to the Philippines amid a warrant of arrest issued by the regional trial court in Angeles City, Pampanga, where he is facing charges of qualified trafficking over his alleged involvement in an illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator in the province.
“Come and get me. How come they have yet to get me? Their intelligence is laughable as their intelligence is really wrong,” Roque said in an interview with One News.
He denied anew that his petition for asylum was rejected by the Netherlands.
“There is no truth to their claim. I only went to Germany to administer the oath of Hakbang ng Maisug Germany,” Roque said.
He said his passport is still with Dutch authorities, and there is only one visa in the Schengen area.“There are no border patrols here. As an asylum seeker, as long as I will not leave the Schengen area, there is no violation as my passport is with the Dutch authorities,” Roque said.
He said that his Schengen visa is valid for one year.
At the same time, Roque said a gathering was held in The Hague to commemorate the 100th day of detention of former president Rodrigo Duterte in the International Criminal Court’s Prison Scheveningen.
“There was a prayer rally outside the ICC to mark the 100th day of kidnapping (of Duterte),” he said.
Roque said Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte is still in The Hague to visit his father.Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Justice is waiting for a formal notice regarding Roque’s asylum bid.
“If he said, ‘come and get me,’ our government’s response is, wait and see,” Castro said.
