MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has called on Filipinos to remain optimistic and resilient in the face of trials, reminding them that their limitations are not impediments to pursuing greater causes.

In his message for Holy Week, Marcos said Jesus fulfilled His mission and endured hardships and suffering, “all in the name of love.”

“As we enter the solemn commemoration of Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection, let us ponder on the Lord’s perfect example of compassion and self-giving. Our Savior knew that the path of Calvary was not an easy journey. Yet, in dutiful obedience to the Father’s will,” the President said.

“Through His sacrifice, the gift of salvation came into our midst. Like Christ, may we remain resilient and optimistic in life, despite all the challenges that come our way. May all the adversities that we face shape us into better persons, capable of understanding and charity towards our brethren,” he added.

Marcos expressed hope that the Filipinos would regain strength in the presence of their families and loved ones for them to be more dedicated in doing God’s will, “most especially to those in the peripheries He entrusted under our care.”

“By His death on the cross at Golgotha, He showed us that our limitations and frailties as human beings do not hinder us for greater causes. We are comforted by the triumph of Easter, which uncovered the success of the Lord’s ultimate sacrifice,” the Chief Executive said.

“May the realization that a loving God embraced humanity to be with us inspire perseverance through tribulations and be an encouragement to our brothers and sisters,” he added.

Holy Week, which commemorates the passion and death of Jesus Christ, began yesterday with the observance of Palm Sunday and will end on Black Saturday.

Serve with sincerity, empathy – Speaker

The Holy Week should remind public servants to serve with honesty, integrity and compassion, and to attend to those needing help, Speaker Martin Romualdez said yesterday.

“For those of us in public service, Holy Week is a time to pause and return to the core of our calling. It is a reminder to serve with sincerity, to lead with empathy, and to be more attentive to those who are quietly carrying burdens,” Romualdez said in a short Holy Week message.

The Speaker also urged the people to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ.

“As we enter the solemn days of Holy Week, I invite every Filipino to reflect on the life, suffering, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. His journey reminds us that true strength is found in sacrifice, healing is born of forgiveness, and faith offers hope even in our darkest moments,” the Speaker said.

“In Christ’s story, we see our own. We know what it means to struggle, to endure loss, and to keep believing. The Filipino spirit has always risen above hardship – with quiet courage, deep faith, and compassion for others,” he added.

Stay safe, pray

As Filipinos nationwide prepare to return to their provinces to observe the Lenten season, Sen. Bong Go called on the public to remain cautious, take time to reflect, and strengthen their faith this Holy Week.

“Many of our kababayans will go home to their provinces to be with their families and reflect this Holy Week. So my reminder: be careful on your travels,” Go said.

Beyond physical safety, Go encouraged Filipinos to take advantage of the solemnity of the Holy Week to reflect on their spiritual lives and reconnect with their faith. He stressed that this season is a time to remember the sacrifices of Jesus Christ and to find renewed purpose in life.

Go also reminded the public to continue observing basic health protocols, particularly in crowded places such as churches and pilgrimage sites. He cautioned against complacency, especially during religious gatherings, where the risk of illness can increase.

In closing, Go extended his warm wishes to all Filipinos during this sacred week.

“I hope our observance of Holy Week will be a meaningful one. Let’s be cautious during our trips, reflect on our beliefs, and serve our countrymen as a reflection of our love of God. May everyone have a blessed Holy Week.” — Jose Rodel Clapano
