TUGUEGARAO CITY — A police chief died on Wednesday morning, April 2, hours after figuring in an accident on the national road in Sitio Limbus, Rapuli, Santa Ana, Cagayan, on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Major Ranolfo Gabatin, chief of Santa Ana police, was brought to the Father Gerry Filippeto Memorial Hospital in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Santa Ana, Cagayan, where he had been under observation after his SUV was hit on its rear by a passenger van along the national road at about 3:30 p.m. on April 1, police said.
However, the badly hurt Gabatin expired at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, according to Police Capt. Junatess Acacio, deputy police chief.
Probers said the car of Gabatin honked at the van driven by Joseph Munzon, 56, of the same village, to overtake it, but the latter's car accelerated instead, hitting the former's rear.
As a result, Gabatin's car rolled over, slammed onto a concrete railing, and almost fell off a ravine.
