The POCO F7 Series is out and while the F7 Ultra is surely an interesting addition in the lineup, what we’re gonna talk about today is the new POCO F7 Pro.

Equipped with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a stronger build, and a larger battery compared to last year’s F6 Pro, the POCO F7 Pro indeed brought several upgrades. However, it also came with a price increase as it now costs Php1,000 more.

With that said, does the F7 Pro’s feature set justify the higher cost? And how does it fare against its predecessor? We’re about to find out in our comparison review of the POCO F7 Pro versus the POCO F6 Pro.

Let’s get right into it!

Design and Construction

At first glance, you can easily distinguish which is which.

Our POCO F7 Pro sporting a Black colorway, has a two-tone finish with the bottom part having a matte texture and the upper half in a glossy finish. That circular camera island is hard to ignore, housing its dual rear camera setup.

Up close, you’ll notice that the upper part adds some geometric design elements, and the camera island even has a ridged outline.

The F7 Pro now has a flat back panel, which is either a good or bad change. For most, it might be a positive one, as it kind of gives the phone a more premium feel. However, when comfort is taken into account, you might appreciate the curved sides of the F6 Pro.

Last year’s model features a rectangular camera module complemented by individual camera rings. Its back is adorned with a decorative pattern, which I recently found out to be inspired by the rugged surface of the moon, and it’s giving a rather unique look.

Design-wise, I actually prefer the look of the POCO F6 Pro—its camera layout just looks much better, in my opinion, and I don’t like that the POCO logo on the F7 Pro is unnecessarily larger. Plus, the unique pattern on the F6 Pro, at least in this White colorway, made it more visually interesting.

The POCO F7 Pro’s design, though generally decent, doesn’t quite resonate with many of us (apparently).

It does counter with a stronger build quality thanks to its IP68 rating that offers dust and water resistance. The F6 Pro is left with an IP54 rating that only offers resistance against dust and splashes of water.

While many of us would agree that the POCO F6 Pro has a more appealing looks than the new model, design is still subjective. But with the POCO F7 Pro offering a higher level of ingress protection, it definitely secures a point this round.

Display, Multimedia, and Biometrics

Flip the phones over, we see identical display panels here.

The F7 Pro and F6 Pro both feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The screen resolution is the same on both devices, too, offering a Wide Quad HD+ resolution at 526 pixels per inch.

Notably, the main difference lies in their peak brightness: the F6 Pro boasts a higher peak brightness of 4000 nits, while the F7 Pro maxes out at 3200 nits. However, do note that such peak brightness figures refer to HDR luminance, which doesn’t necessarily translate into an overall better viewing experience.

Speaking of visuals, I don’t notice much of a difference, possibly because both models are likely using the same display panel. You’d still get vivid colors, deep blacks, and Dolby Vision support.

Another key difference I might add is about the audio quality. Both do have a nice sound stage, which is also enhanced by Dolby Atmos. However, it seems that the F7 Pro has a more punch to the bass. Regardless, you won’t be disappointed on both models when it comes to audio-visual experience.

There’s just one thing where the F7 Pro one ups its predecessor, and that is its under-display fingerprint sensor which is now an ultrasonic sensor rather than optical from the F6 Pro.

So, with that, the POCO F7 Pro gets another point this round.

Performance and Benchmarks

Now, let’s get into the exciting part: the performance.

The POCO F7 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a more updated chipset built on 4-nanometer process, clocked at up to 3.3GHz.

Meanwhile, the POCO F6 Pro features the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, also a 4-nanometer chip, but has a relatively slower clock speed at 3.19GHz. It still delivers impressive performance, though with a slight step back in comparison with the newer chip.

For config, our F7 Pro comes with 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage, while our F6 Pro also has 16GB of RAM but with a larger storage at 1-terabyte.

In our testing, the POCO F7 Pro consistently outperformed its predecessor, the F6 Pro, across all benchmark tests. Its ANTUTU score surpassed 1.8 million points, which is relatively higher than the F6 Pro’s score of 1.5 million.

When it comes to storage speeds, the F7 Pro pulls ahead with faster read and write speeds in the ANTUTU Storage test. That’s likely thanks to the newer UFS 4.1 storage, compared to the F6 Pro’s UFS 4.0.

For graphic-intensive tasks like 3DMark, the F7 Pro hit 3,983 points in Wild Life Extreme test, with a faster average frame rate. Check out the rest of our benchmark results below.

PCMark Work 3.0 performance 16,191 17,422
PCMark Work 3.0 battery life 15 hrs & 59 mins 10 hrs & 50 mins

With these figures, it’s clear that the POCO F7 Pro has the upper hand when it comes to performance. In real world use cases though, there’s barely any difference. Navigating and playing games on both devices feel fluid and smooth.

I was able to play graphically intensive titles like Zenless Zone Zero at High custom graphics and both phones handled it well. Casual and MOBA games like Mobile Legends and Honor of Kings, are definitely playable at Ultra graphics settings without any stutter.

Despite this, we can’t deny the superior processing power of the POCO F7 Pro, so it’s only fair to give it another point this round.

Cameras

For optics, the POCO F7 Pro appears to have a slight downgrade on paper—or is that not the case? You see, it retains the exact 50-megapixel main sensor and the 8-megapixel ultrawide, but it ditches the 2-megapixel macro.

Well, it doesn’t really sound like a downgrade, no? Its selfie camera did get more megapixels, now a 20-megapixel shooter which was previously a 16-megapixel on the F6 Pro.

Having literally the exact same set of rear cameras, expect mostly the same level of image quality. Images captured from both devices are nice with sharp detail, decent dynamic range, and good color reproduction. The F7 Pro does add a bit more contrast, but the difference is subtle compared to the F6 Pro’s output.

See some of our sample shots in each of their respective tech reviews below:

What I did appreciate is the addition of the Dynamic shot feature, which looks the same as Live photos on the iPhone.

As for videos, both phones can shoot up to 8K resolution at 24 fps, and the quality is really good in bright environments. The F7 Pro does it a bit better in low light, but the F6 Pro still does a good job overall.

Since both devices have similar camera performance, I will give each of them a point this round.

Battery Life

Battery-wise, the POCO F7 Pro packs a larger 6000mAh unit as compared to the F6 Pro’s 5000mAh capacity. The latter does have a faster charging speed at 120W while the newer model supports 90W of wired charging.

In our experience, both devices can easily last more than a day with regular use. However, if you’re a heavy gamer like me, you can expect about half a day’s worth of battery life.

The larger battery did help improve the the F7 Pro’s overall runtime. In our PCMark test, the POCO F7 Pro lasted 15 hours and 59 minutes—which is over five hours longer than the F6 Pro with 10 hours and 50 minutes of runtime.

However, if both phones’ batteries run low, you won’t have to wait long to keep them back up and running. The F7 Pro takes around 40 minutes to fully charge, while the F6 Pro charges even faster, in just about 20 minutes.

Connectivity and Other Features

On the software side, both phones run Xiaomi HyperOS 2 based on Android 15, though despite the same HyperOS version, the POCO F7 Pro already got the latest update.

There’s not much of a difference to see here except the F7 Pro has a more streamlined Xiaomi HyperAI—which offers a range of AI powered tools. The F6 Pro does have the same features, but you’d notice the differences here and there, especially the UI.

A nice improvement we noticed is that the overflow menu on the F7 Pro’s notification and control panel now has a proper blur effect, as you can see in this B-roll. It looks better, although I’m not sure if this blur effect is used in other parts of the interface.

When it comes to update policy, the POCO F7 Pro edges out the F6 Pro, offering four major OS updates and a solid six years of security patches. The latter is a bit behind with just three major OS updates and only four years of security patches.

Connectivity-wise, both models get all the essentials: 5G, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, and the nifty IR blaster—though, its placement has been changed on the F7 Pro. Instead of using the remote control with the top side facing the TV, for example, as you typically would, you now need to lift the phone, so its rear faces the TV, with the IR blaster now integrated into the camera island.

Which one should you get?

To wrap it up, the POCO F7 Pro definitely steps up the game in terms of performance, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a stronger build, and that massive 6000mAh battery. It’s got that extra durability with IP68 water resistance and even a faster under-display fingerprint sensor.

On paper, it looks like a pretty solid upgrade over the F6 Pro. But here’s the kicker: it comes at a higher price, starting at PHP 27,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant, while the POCO F6 Pro starts at PHP 26,999 for the same config.

While you’re getting more performance, the differences in key areas are subtle, at best, and its design is a bit of a downgrade in our opinion.

So, if you’re after raw power, longer battery life, and some extra durability, the POCO F7 Pro is a worthy investment. But if you’re good with the same great display, solid performance, and a visually more pleasing design, the POCO F6 Pro still holds its own—and at a lower price.

It really comes down to whether those incremental upgrades are worth the extra cost to you. At the end of the day, both phones punch well above their weight, and whether you choose the F7 Pro or stick with the F6 Pro, you’re getting a great device either way.
