LEGAZPI CITY — The Philippine National Railways (PNR) trains will roll again from Naga to Legazpi and vice versa in the next few days after undergoing four months of rehabilitation, PNR general manager Deovanni Miranda said.

Operations will resume on Feb. 26. The service was suspended for four months to give way for the repair and rehabilitation of trains following the occurrences of two consecutive weather disturbances in Bicol, specifically in Camarines Sur and Albay provinces last year.

The first train trip leaves Legazpi for Naga at 4:49 a.m. and the trip from Naga to Legazpi will depart at 5:30 p.m., the PNR management said.

Miranda said the trains were damaged by flood at Naga station.

"The repair of the train set takes longer since the other parts of the locomotives are subject for replacement. There were also repair and rehabilitation on the railway covered by the Naga to Legazpi route," he added.

Last month, the PNR launched the 1st Railway Summit to intensify the safety awareness campaign and address the safety issues in the rail system and enhance safety awareness of the public following the increasing number of incidents in Bicol Region that resulted in death of several passengers.

"The PNR is committed to providing affordable and reliable transportation. Public participation in this campaign is important to achieving our goal of zero train incidents, as emphasized in our previous safety initiatives," Miranda said.

The PNR plans to continue this campaign to Laguna and Quezon to assess safety incidents further, improve rail safety measures, and foster a more connected collaborative network within the community.
