PLDT star spiker Kianna Dy scores in double-digits in two games in as many days in Ilagan City, prompting excitement from her fans and longtime teammates of what's in store for the long-injured star

ILAGAN CITY, Philippines – When at full strength, the PLDT High Speed Hitters are one of the strongest teams in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), arguably rivaling the likes of champion squads such as the Creamline Cool Smashers and the Petro Gazz Angels.

In recent years, however, that phrase had always been the franchise’s caveat in contender conversations: “when at full strength,” a state which PLDT is rarely at.

In the 2025 PVL on Tour preseason, however, the signs of scary hours ahead for the High Speed Hitters are finally starting to show, particularly as star opposite spiker Kianna Dy continues to regain full power after nearly two years of injury rehab.

To the delight of the Ilagan City, Isabela crowd at the jampacked Capital Arena, the former F2 star — in back-to-back days, no less — tallied 10 points in a surprise three-set blowout of All-Filipino champion Petro Gazz, and a game-high 15 against Choco Mucho to complete the weekend set.

Now at 3-0 in the preseason tilt, PLDT stars Mika Reyes and Majoy Baron like what they’re seeing from their longtime teammate dating back to college with the iconic La Salle champion program.

“We all knew her struggles in the past few months to return to what she’s doing right now, but we also know Kianna can still do more,” Reyes said in Filipino. “I think she just needs more games for her to be truly back.”

“I’m happy for her because she’s really giving it her best in her rehab to get where she was before the injuries. We’re all happy for her.”

Not even having Fil-Canadian super scorer Savi Davison and Alas Pilipinas anchor Dell Palomata yet in the mix, PLDT is already looking like a top title contender ahead of the 2025-2026 PVL season, with the likes of Dy, Jovie Prado, and Kim Fajardo all playing their best volleyball in the On Tour campaign.

While Davison and Palomata remain unavailable, former PLDT captain Reyes made it a point to remind her teammates — Dy included — of what they are all truly capable of on their own.

“We all need to trust one another because we don’t want to be dependent. Savi is a great help when she’s there, but we don’t want to depend on her only,” Reyes continued.

“This is a challenge for us since Savi was our highest scorer last conference, but this time, everyone is contributing, and the teamwork is really great.” – Rappler.com
