MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) could add as much as 1.5 hectares in space for bus operations as the main building is becoming overcrowded on peak days.

Its developer, Megawide Construction Corp., is exploring the possibility of adding a second lot as the main terminal is becoming too congested these days.

Megawide chief business development officer Jaime Feliciano said the second lot can be turned into an extension terminal to create additional capacity for bus operations.

PITX is handling more than 180,000 commuters per day, which exceeds 60 million in a year. In 2025, the terminal increased passenger volume by 17 percent to 60.28 million, from 51.56 million in 2024, driven by its recent connection to the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1).

LRT-1 added five new stations as part of its southward expansion, with one connecting to PITX. The project propped up PITX traffic by as many as 20,000 passengers.

Feliciano said this is the reason PITX’s operator and Megawide unit MWM Terminals Inc. is no longer aggressive in bringing new routes into the terminal to control its congestion levels.

“We also don’t want passengers to feel that it is too cramped. As it is, there are times, especially during holidays, that it is cramped, so we are trying to manage that. We are not actually actively going out to get more routes,” Feliciano said in an interview with reporters.

Megawide is studying the viability of a second lot, evaluating whether the benefits of making it an extension terminal outweigh the costs.
