MANILA, Philippines — A large portion of Luzon will continue to experience rain as a result of the shear line and northeast monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

“The public is warned of possible flooding and landslides particularly in the eastern part of Southern Luzon, especially Quezon as well as in the Bicol region,” PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said in a briefing.

The shear line will also affect Aurora, Laguna, Rizal and portions of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Badrina added that the northeast monsoon is currently affecting Ilocos Norte and Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, isolated rains are expected in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, brought about by the easterlies, or the convergence of warm and cold wind and localized thunderstorms.

Despite these, Badrina said that the state weather bureau does not monitor low-pressure areas.

“There is a nil chance that a typhoon will develop this week as generally March is among the months where there are few cyclones developing in the Philippine Area of Responsibility,” he added.

Yesterday, temperature in Baguio City ranged between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.

In Metro Manila, the temperature ranged from 24 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, on March 8, the highest heat index was monitored in Cuyo, Palawan with 42 degrees Celsius.

The weather bureau said that the “danger” heat index ranged between 42 degrees Celsius and 51 degrees Celsius.
