MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday announced the completion of printing of the official ballots to be used in the May 12 national and local polls.

Comelec said a total of 68,542,564 official ballots have been printed.

“We are happy over this latest development and we are thankful to the National Printing Office (NPO) and their personnel. Ballot printing officially started on Jan. 27. During that time, we targeted for printing to be completed by March 15,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia said at a press briefing.

The NPO and Comelec’s service provider, Miru Systems, were tasked to print the official ballots.

Garcia said that verification of the ballots will be finished by April 20-21 as 50 percent of the ballots have now been verified.

“The target is to verify 1.2 to 1.3 million (ballots) per day,” he said.

Garcia explained that only around 69 million ballots for the national and local elections were printed after the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections (BPE) had been postponed.
