MANILA, Philippines — Pageant powerhouse Venezuela will still be represented at the inaugural Miss Grand International (MGI) All Stars competition following the late withdrawal of Sthefany Gutierrez.
The Miss Universe 2018 second runner-up announced her departure from the pageant a couple of weeks before preliminary events were due to begin, citing personal and family responsibilities.
Fans were left wondering how competitive the pageant would be if no one from Venezuela would be present, while multiple delegates would be representing China (6), the Philippines (5), Dominican Republic (4) and host country Thailand (3).
However, organizers revealed last week that Miss Supranational 2019 4th runner-Up Gabriela De La Cruz would be participating to represent the country with the second-most Miss Universe wins.
MGI All Stars described De La Cruz as "determined, positive, and known for her strong sense of responsibility and dedication to self-improvement" whose pageant experience results in "confidence, authenticity, and a passion for personal growth."
"She communicates effectively, connects well with people, and feels confident in public speaking," organizers said. "Gabriela is creative, disciplined, and persistent, continuously striving to evolve and inspire others through her journey.... Gabriela represents resilience, pride, and purpose."
Additionally, MGI All Stars announced earlier this week that Miss International Queen 2014 winner Isabella Santiago would also be representing Venezuela.
Earlier this year, the trans queen had registered to compete for Colombia, where she is employed.
"She has talents in acting and dancing, bringing confidence and charisma to the stage," organizers said of the multilingual delegate. "With her experience, determination, and passion for self-development, Isabella returns to the international stage as a strong All-Star contender."
The five candidates representing the Philippines are Gazini Ganados, Imelda Schweighart, Keylyn Trajano, Fuschia Anne Ravena and Alexia Nunez.
An offshoot of the Thailand-based Miss Grand International pageant, the All Stars edition is open to women and transgender women aged 20-40 who have competed in international pageants.
