MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos honored yesterday civil servants who made significant contributions in their respective fields.

Marcos, who was represented by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto during the awarding ceremony at Malacañang, underscored the vital role of public servants in the country’s development, noting that their hard work and integrity strengthen public trust and improve delivery of essential services.

“I believe that so long as we have public servants like you, our Republic will remain strong,” the President said in a speech delivered by Recto. “Amid darkness and noise, you are the thread of light that gives hope to our people. You are proof that there are many good employees in our government.”

The Gawad ng Lingkod Bayani, spearheaded by the Civil Service Commission, recognizes government employees with exceptional economic and social contributions, notable achievements and steadfast commitment to the highest ethical standards.

The awards are conferred under three categories: Gawad Lingkod Bayan ng Pangulo, Gawad Dangal ng Bayan and Gawad Pag-asa.

This year, 24 people and six teams were awarded.

The awardees include Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, who received the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award for the third consecutive year.

The awardees received gold-gilded medallions, plaques and cash rewards of up to P200,000.

Some recipients also gained eligibility for automatic promotions and scholarships for themselves or their beneficiaries.
