MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit several towns in Southern Leyte and Caraga, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday.
Tectonic in origin, the quake struck at 7:03 a.m. on Friday near General Luna, Surigao del Norte.
Instrumental Intensity IV was felt in Cabadbaran City (Agusan del Norte), Hinunangan, San Francisco, Hinundayan, Silago (Southern Leyte) and Surigao City (Surigao del Norte).
Aftershocks and damage are expected following the quake, according to Phivolcs.
The tremor comes after strong quakes in Davao Oriental last week and Cebu in September.
