MANILA, Philippines — MacroAsia Corp. of taipan Lucio Tan is embarking on an agricultural production project in Cavite to beef up supply chain integration for its in-flight kitchens and food commissary operations.
The project, to be undertaken by subsidiary MacroAsia New Ventures Inc., will utilize a designated portion of MacroAsia’s property in Maragondon that is suitable for agricultural use.
MacroAsia expects the farm to produce up to 100,000 kilos of leafy vegetables annually, with output prioritized for internal consumption.
The company will tap local farmers for the project, supported by the technical expertise of CoGrow Agricultural Services, a social enterprise focused on transforming idle land into sustainable farms.
Land preparation is targeted to start this month, followed by planting in April, with initial harvest expected by end-May.
MacroAsia said the project would pave the way for expansion of further agricultural production, looking at a target base of produce beyond the company’s own requirements.
The company said the initiative is designed to directly supply a portion of the leafy vegetable requirements of its three kitchens, supporting airline catering and commissary operations.
By internalizing selected agricultural inputs, MacroAsia seeks to reduce procurement costs, mitigate exposure to price volatility and lower logistics-related expenses, while enhancing reliability, quality control and predictability of supply.
MacroAsia said these efficiencies are expected to contribute to improved operational resilience and margin stability within the group.
“Through this agricultural production project, MacroAsia continues to strengthen its operational efficiency and supply chain resilience while advancing its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth,” it said.
