MANILA, Philippines — While everyone is attempting to kickstart their fitness goals in the new year, it's worth noting that a bright smile might lead to a happier year — as it symbolizes positivity.
Celebrities like Mimiyuuuh, KaladKaren, Benedict Cua, Joy Barcoma, Donita Nose, Jade Tecson, Tita Krissy, Chad Kinis and Inah Evans believe that lovely smiles have a positive impact on people's emotions.
In an interview with Philstar.com, celebrity-approved Filipina dentist Camille Ampong, the founder of popular clinic Ampong Dental, encouraged Filipinos to include dental care in their New Year's resolutions
Promoting dental hygiene, Dr. Ampong said that it begins at home.
“Oral health is more than just going to the dentist. Many times, regular brushing (for at least two minutes), flossing, and tongue cleaning are neglected. Many also put off regular checkups or neglect to wear retainers after braces. Ignoring these small steps can lead to gum disease and tooth loss,” she said.
“Prioritize your dental health in 2026. It is an important part of overall wellness,” she added.
Oral care tips
Being aware of common dental conditions at home can help people “avoid discomfort, costly treatments, and long-term health problems,” according to Dr. Ampong.
Raising awareness of the importance of oral health, Dr. Ampong, who recently launched DentoFacial Contour Plus, shared some oral health tips for 2026.
“Limit sugary snacks and beverages, especially in between meals, and brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste,” she said.
“When brushing is not an option, rinse your mouth with water after ingesting sweet food items, and have your teeth checked every six months,” she added.
The celebrity-approved dentist also discussed teeth staining and discoloration, noting that Filipino cuisine and habits usually cause tooth staining.
“Regular usage of coffee, tea, soy sauce, bagoong, and tobacco products can cause teeth to darken over time, reducing confidence and social engagement,” she said.
She continued to remind people about foul breath and how to address it.
“Bad breath can be particularly distressing. Beyond the social impact, persistent bad breath may indicate underlying dental problems or systemic health issues," the dentist warned.
Using cutting-edge digital dental tools (scanners, imaging) for accuracy and speedier treatment times, Dr. Ampong, who has worked in the field for many years, focuses on functional smile solutions — not just aesthetics but also long-term oral health.
