MANILA, Philippines — As Typhoon "Uwan" (international name: Fung-Wong) continues to intensify over the Philippine Sea, several major mall operators across the country have announced free overnight parking and temporary shelters for motorists and residents seeking safety ahead of the storm.
The typhoon is expected to reach super typhoon category by Saturday night or early Sunday, according to PAGASA.
In a public advisory on Friday, MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes urged the management of various shopping malls across Luzon to provide overnight free parking for motorists who may be affected by the typhoon.
"Malaking tulong ang pagbibigay ng libreng paradahan para sa mga motorista, lalo na sa mga nakatira sa mga lugar na nasa mabababang lugar, sakaling ang bagyo ay magdulot ng pagbaha," Artes said in a statement posted on Facebook.
(Providing free parking for motorists is a big help, especially for those living in low-lying areas, in case the typhoon causes flooding.)
"Ito ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na maghanda sa bagyo," he added.
(This is in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prepare for the typhoon.)
