Minister of Economy and Industry MK Nir Barkat said, “We see the Philippines as a strategic partner for cooperation in agriculture, water, energy, cyber, health, and sustainability. We aim to expand Israel’s economic ties with East Asian countries as part of a broader strategy to develop new markets for Israeli exports.”
The Joint Economic Committee between the governments convened for the first time on July 29, 2025, in Makati City, during Minister Barkat’s official visit. The meeting focused on key areas of economic cooperation and led to the joint announcement to explore the feasibility of launching FTA negotiations.
The committee was attended by Minister Barkat, DTI Secretary Cristina Roque, and professional delegations from both countries. It was agreed that working mechanisms and timetables for negotiations would be formulated in the coming months.
