COTABATO CITY — An employee of a major government hospital and his two accomplices involved in operating a drug den were arrested by anti-narcotics agents during an operation in Barangay Cogon, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur, on Saturday, December 13.
Bryan Babang, director of PDEA 9, told reporters on Sunday, December 14, that all three suspects are now in detention and will be prosecuted for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Local executives in Vincenzo Sagun and barangay leaders revealed that the main owner of the drug den is an employee of a state-run hospital in a nearby town, which was unusual for both them and the PDEA 9 agents involved in the operation.
Babang said that PDEA 9 agents, who raided the suspects' drug den based on a court-issued warrant, confiscated 15 grams of shabu worth P102,000, along with drug-sniffing paraphernalia used for drug sessions by buyers of their illegal merchandise.
Babang added that the entrapment operation, which led to the suspects' arrest and the closure of their drug den (now guarded by barangay officials and volunteer community watchmen), was supported by operatives from various units of the Police Regional Office 9 in Zamboanga del Sur, under Brig. Gen. Edwin Quilates.
