GMA Kapuso Foundation’s bridge project connecting the towns of Mansalay and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro is nearing completion and will soon be ready for use.

According to “24 Oras” Tuesday, the indigenous Hanunuo Mangyan community had to traverse the raging river daily to access food and sell their produce.

“‘Mahirap talagang magtawid sa ilog. Baka mamatay kami sa baha,” resident Mamie Bado said.

There was an incident when another resident, Alya Gawid, slipped and hit a big rock while crossing the river.

“Sa paglangoy po, napadulas ako po sa bato. Mahirap na mahirap talaga. ’Pag lampas na ng tao, talagang ako ay natatakot,” he said.

In May 2024, GMA Kapuso Foundation began constructing the concrete bridge that will connect the towns of Mansalay and Bulalacao.

After facing hurdles due to successive typhoons in the past year, the new and sturdy Kapuso Bridge will soon be ready for the residents to use.

“‘Yung ating Kapuso Bridge, may tinatawag na side sway restraint cable. Ito ‘yung kable sa ilalim na kung saan kumbaga pinipigilan niya ‘yung tulay na gumalaw. Hindi siya gaya ng ibang tulay na sobrang galaw ‘pag dumaan,” said Engr. Arnel Zantua, supervising engineer of GMA Kapuso Foundation.

The residents were also given various seeds they could plant and use.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation’ projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
