MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. has stepped up its efforts to prevent users from falling for scams, blocking close to one billion spam texts from reaching targets in 2025.

Based on company data, Globe prevented 967 million spam messages from reaching customers in 2025, as the telco increased digital safeguards to protect users from fraudulent activities.

Apart from this, Globe blocked 272,746 SIMs that were assessed to be linked to the distribution of spam texts.

The provider also took down 17,384 domains that were promoting malicious activities, including 8,704 sites for illegal gambling. As a whole.

Globe said it has intensified anti-scam measures on all fronts, recognizing that as the digital community expands, so does the threat landscape.

Globe is also doubling down on programs that seek to fight online sexual abuse or exploitation of children (OSAEC). In line with the worldwide celebration of Safer Internet Day yesterday, Globe said it is committed to investing more to make the internet a conducive space for children.

Globe chief sustainability and corporate communications officer Yolanda Crisanto said the telco is building on the success of its Digital Thumbprint Program to raise awareness.

The program, which conducts workshops on digital citizenship, privacy and protection, reached more than 16,560 students and teachers in 2025.

Since Globe started the program in 2016, it has engaged nearly two million Filipinos nationwide, and the telco is widening its reach with the emergence of new kinds of OSAEC.

“Safety in the digital space requires action on all fronts. We protect customers through advanced filtering, real-time threat blocking and easy-to-use reporting tools like Globe’s StopSpam portal, but true protection also means education, giving every Filipino the knowledge and confidence to stay safe and speak up online,” Crisanto said.

To date, Globe has blocked 3,096 sites involved in the distribution of child pornography content. It has also invested $2.7 million on content filters to block access to child porn sites.

Telcos are mandated under Republic Act 11930, or the Anti-OSAEC Act, to block access to any and all platforms that promote child exploitation.

In 2021, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said that its anonymous hotline CyberTipline received 3.19 million reports in the Philippines on suspected abuse of children.
