MANILA, Philippines — E-wallet giant GCash has released more than P362 billion in loans at end-2025, with disbursements expected to grow faster following the receipt of fresh financing from a multilateral lender.

Based on data from GCash parent Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), loans acquired through the e-wallet have reached P362 billion as of last year, up by 65 percent from 2024.

Mynt said GCash has issued loans to over 10.5 million borrowers through its portfolio of financing products.

Last week, GCash obtained a $30-million loan, equivalent to about P1.75 billion, from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The financing intends to improve credit access for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on businesses owned by women.

GCash is tasked to allocate 60 percent of the loan to fund women-owned SMEs. It is required to also provide non-collateralized loans to farmers, vendors and sari-sari store owners.

Apart from its lending business, GCash is growing in other segments of the financial sector, and this is increasing the e-wallet’s profit, boosting its case for an initial public offering (IPO).

Connectivity giant Globe Telecom Inc. reported that Mynt’s equity share surged to P6.1 billion in 2025, contributing more than a fifth of the telco’s pre-tax profit.

In spite of this, Globe chief finance officer Juan Carlo Puno said Mynt is still evaluating its options, so it has no timeline yet on when it would file an IPO.

Mynt president and CEO Martha Sazon said GCash is pushing on with its expansion plans on all fronts. In 2025, the e-wallet started becoming an integral part of mass transit when it entered bus and rail lines through its tap-to-pay technology.

“Our growth momentum continues as digital finance becomes more embedded in our daily life. We are doubling down on expanding financial access to the masses through everyday payments, fair lending and inclusive wealth and insurance products,” Sazon said.

GCash ended last year with 1.7 million users trading in its investment outlet GStocks and 132.6 million policies sold on insurance platform GInsure.

Based on data from digital measure Sensor Tower, GCash is the leading financial technology app in the Philippines in 2025 by monthly active users, as its portfolio ranges from cash transfer and load top-up, to quick loans and investment policies.
