Preview of the Cinematheque Centre Manila
Film Development Council of the Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is preparing to reopen the Cinematheque Centre Manila, now located in the historic walled city of Intramuros.
The original Cinematheque Centre Manila was located along T.M. Kalaw Street in Ermita. It was closed down last year after a decade of operations.
The cinema's new location comes after the relocation of the new Philippine Film Heritage Building, which will also house FDCP offices and the Philippine Film Archive.
Apart from these, the Intramuros building will also house a museum, a film script library, a media archive, and film restoration and preservation facilities.
Other Cinematheque Centres run by the FDCP can be found in Iloilo City, Davao City, Bacolod City, and Nabunturan in Compostella Valley, though the latter is currently inactive.
Future cinematheques are being eyed in Cebu City, Naga City, Baguo City, Dumaguete City, Cagayan de Oro City, or any local government unit willing to offer venues.
The FDCP recently shared a teaser video of the Intramuros cinematheque's interior featuring nearly a hundred seats and Dolby Atmos speakers.
The opening of the new Cinematheque Centre Manila is eyed for March, with a special screening of Jun Robles Lana's "Sisa," Hilda Koronel's first film in over a decade.
The restored version of 1951's "Sisa" by National Artist Gerardo de Leon starring Anita Linda, a documentary on another National Artist Eddie Romero by Baby Ruth Villarama, and Michele Josue's documentary "Nurse Unseen" about Filipino nurses during the pandemic are also planned for screening at the cinematheque.
