SABLAYAN, Occidental Mindoro — A changeable hawk-eagle was rescued by a local farmer here at Sitio Aplaya, Barangay Burgos on Wednesday.
The farmer, Arr James Begornia, said he found the feeble bird in a grassy area near his house. Realizing it was not an ordinary bird, he took the eagle home to protect it from the wildlife and contacted the local government of Sablayan.
Upon examination, representatives from the Municipal and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (Menro and Cenro) identified the bird as a changeable hawk-eagle, a forest-dwelling predator.
It was also discovered that the bird had an injury in its left eye.
Rechel Kaye Lopez of the Conservation and Development Office of Cenro said the eagle will be taken to the Tamaraw Conservation Program in San Jose town in Occidental Mindoro for treatment and care before it is released back into the wild.
