PNB CHIEF. Philippine National Bank's president and chief executive officer Edwin Bautista
Union Bank of the Philippines
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Lucio Tan-owned bank describes Bautista’s appointment as a 'key milestone' amid PNB’s ongoing strategic transformation
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Bank (PNB) has tapped former Union Bank of the Philippines (Unionbank) chief Edwin Bautista as its new president and chief executive officer effective April 29.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, March 26, the Lucio Tan-owned bank described Bautista’s appointment as a “key milestone” amid PNB’s ongoing strategic transformation.
Bautista will succeed the 83-year-old Florido Casuela, who will continue to serve as an adviser of PNB’s board once he steps down. Casuela assumed PNB’s top post following the resignation of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) chief Wick Veloso in 2022. “The [PNB] Board expressed its deep appreciation for Mr. Casuela who skillfully led the bank through the challenges of the post-pandemic period,” the Tan-owned bank wrote.
Prior to joining PNB, Bautista was head of Unionbank. PNB said its new chief executive steered the Aboitiz-led bank’s digital transformation and expanded its retail banking business.
“His appointment signals PNB’s commitment to innovation, customer-centric banking and long-term sustainable growth,” the Tan-owned bank said.
Bautista also stepped down from the Unionbank board on the same day his PNB appointment was announced, citing “personal reasons.”
The veteran banker had also served as Procter and Gamble’s senior brand manager, vice president and group head of transaction banking at Citibank, and marketing and sales director for the Philippines and Guam at American Express International.
Bautista was replaced by Ana Aboitiz-Delgado — a fifth-generation heir of the Aboitiz family — as Unionbank’s president and CEO earlier this year.
