Everything About My Wife” starring Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo is now showing in Philippine cinemas and it's a film that will make you laugh, cry, hope, and feel kilig to the max!

The new romantic-comedy movie, which also marks DenJen's first film as a married couple, follows the story of Imogen (Jennylyn) and Dom (Dennis) who face a challenging point in their marriage.

It depicts the realities and struggles that many couples in long-term relationships face, and offers poignant lessons on love and why it is worth fighting for.

The film also brings a perfect balance of drama and comedy for viewers, thanks to DenJen's effortless comedic acting and off the roof chemistry as a reel and real-life couple.

"Everything About My Wife" is directed by Real Florido and produced by GMA Pictures, CreaZion Studios, and Glimmer Studio. Aside from DenJen, it also stars Sam Milby, Nova Villa, and Carmi Martin, among others.

Here are five lessons about love that we can ponder on from DenJen’s new romcom film.

1. People change, and so do relationships.

Some things just don’t stay the same way. Seven years into their marriage, Imogen and Dom find themselves in a complicated situation and they begin to question what went wrong in their relationship.

The adage "Familiarity breeds contempt" rings true for the couple as Dom looks back on the years that went by and realizes the very things he used to love about his wife, such as her personality and witty antics, became the reasons why he started disliking her.

Meanwhile, Imogen feels they are no longer the couple they used to be because of certain things they have to prioritize in their lives, such as building a better future for their family.

While changes can be difficult, the film is a reminder that change is inevitable in life and relationships. Some changes strengthen connections and others may require more effort to navigate. In love, accepting that one or both partners have changed or can change allows room for the couple to grow together.

2. Communication is key

At its core, “Everything About My Wife” is a poignant reflection of how communication is crucial in a relationship.

In one heated confrontation, Imogen tells Dom that the real problem in their relationship is their lack of communication, especially when Dom chooses to ignore a problem rather than confront it.

Their clashing personalities also take a toll on their relationship, but both never address this issue, which led to a lot of bottled-up feelings.

As much as we want to avoid conflict in a relationship, the film shows us the consequences of choosing not to speak up when one should.

It's important to talk to our partners about the things that bother us, no matter how difficult the conversation, as this will help us understand each other deeply. So, start the conversation, be honest and be considerate, and listen.

3. Love never gives up

It’s only natural for couples to face curveballs in their relationship, as life is not perfect after all.

Like any other couple, Imogen and Dom have gone through rocky patches through the years. But while Imogen continues to fight and hold on to their relationship, Dom has slowly let himself slip away.

Love always endures, and so couples shouldn't give up on each other.

As Imogen said it herself, “Nangako tayo na for better or for worse, pero sumuko ka at our worst."

This thought-provoking line from the film reminds us that we don't just stay in a relationship for the good times. We must also stick through the bad and work through it together to give justice to love's name.

4. It’s OK to take a break

Love never gives up, but there’s nothing wrong with taking a break before trying again.

With their marriage slowly falling apart, Imogen decides to take a break to give her and Dom time to rethink their lives. Although Dom seemed to be hesitant at first, he agreed to give themselves the much-needed space, which in the end helped them grow as better individuals and partners.

Taking a break doesn’t necessarily mean totally breaking up with one another because it’s a good way for couples to reflect, regroup, and reevaluate their relationship. It also provides space for the couple to recharge and clear their mind to move towards rebuilding the relationship anew.

5. Love forgives

As Imogen and Dom navigate their relationship, they acknowledge that both of them have hurt each other in one way or another. Instead of holding resentment, they choose to forgive each other and more importantly, themselves.

Although the journey isn’t easy, Imogen and Dom were able to forgive each other and accept each other's faults because of the love they have for one another.

Love keeps no record of wrongs. Forgiving each other and giving each other this grace can help expand our capacity to love even more.
