Father’s Day weekend was bittersweet for Dimples Romana, as it brought back memories of her late father, who passed away in February 2001, and also marked her 22nd wedding anniversary with husband Boyet Ahmee.

The Kapamilya actress’ father died when she was 16.

“So to be honest, it’s not an event I like to celebrate if not for my husband,” she told reporters on the sidelines of the 50th anniversary event of Mega Prime Foods Inc. held at the Shangri-La The Fort, BGC.

“Boyet has become a father figure to me. Siya rin ang palaging nagpapagalit sa akin but he’s also the one who loves us with all his heart. It’s the same weekend so maybe it’s a double celebration — as Father’s Day and our 22nd wedding anniversary.”

Dimples described her partner as a  “proud househusband.” She told The STAR, “My husband is the one who stays with our children, raises them day-to-day. I’m the one who is out, being able to do what I love to do — just acting and hosting.”

She is grateful for her husband who has “zero insecurities and zero ego.” “Ang ganda kasing panoorin na ang isang tatay ay nasa tahanan din at nagtataguyod din ng kanilang pamilya, tumutulong din sa amin,” she said.

“In establishing a family, I believed that ang ilaw hindi lang sa nanay but it also comes from both parents. So I’m just grateful that he is a great father not just only a great husband to me.”

On her social media page, Dimples paid homage to Boyet calling their “love so wild and extraordinarily ordinary” during their anniversary on June 14.

“Decades of defying the odds and going against the tide. Here’s us on photobooth memories a little over two decades ago, happy anniversary to the love of my life who seems to have been frozen in time (has more hair than I do) and have found the fountain of youth. Thank you for keeping up with my Scorpioness all these years,” she posted.

“Here’s to a lifetime of annoying our three beautiful, kind kids, winning and losing, dream building, random trips, having no plans, photos we take but never post, and learning and unlearning this crazy life with you! love you! All the rest I shall just whisper to you! Who needs a map when every direction I wanna take is where you’ll always want to go.”

Dimples also fondly spoke of her father in an interview. One of the unforgettable gestures she could remember from his dad was how he would pray over Dimples and her siblings when they were half-asleep.

Her dad, a postmaster, would leave early in the morning for work. As Dimples vividly recalled, “I remember ku-krusan niya yung ulo naming magkapatid, magkakatabi kami and he would whisper his prayers to us.

“There were times that I couldn’t hear it but there were times that I would hear it. And one of the main prayers that my papa would always say is, ‘Father, guide my children, guide their steps.’ And I will never forget that.”

Another pleasant memory that Dimples could recall from his father was the Bible verse that he would often share with them. “It talks about humility — that wherever life will take you, whether it is defeat, failure, success or victory, he would always say, ‘He who humbles himself will be exalted and he who exalts himself would be humbled,’” she shared.

Meanwhile, Dimples, alongside her fellow brand ambassadors, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Coco Martin, Marian Rivera-Dantes, content creators, Ninong Ry and Cong TV graced the star-studded occasion of the sardines brand.

Dimples conveyed gratitude to her Mega Prime Foods Inc. family for giving her a “once in a lifetime opportunity.” “And for me to witness and be part of their 50th anniversary… Imagine (50 years) and that’s not very easy to do. Like what Sir William (Tiu Lim, chairman) and Miss Marylou (wife) were saying about how they built the company, I realized that I’m very lucky to become part of this event and this family.”
