TRECE MARTIRES CITY — About 23 localities in Cavite are on alert in the face of an alarming rise in dengue cases in the first two months this year.
The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) reported that based on data from the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Medical Hospital here in Barangay Luciano, a total of 3,379 cases of dengue were recorded from Jan. 1 to Feb. 22.
Dr. Nelson Soriano, provincial health officer of Cavite, said the number is 409-percent higher compared to the same period last year when only 664 cases were recorded.

Ten localities in the province have more than 100 cases of dengue, with Imus having 501 cases, followed by Bacoor with 456 cases, Dasmariñas with 416, General Trias with 394, Tanza 335, Cavite City 223, Naic 219, Rosario 141, Kawit 124 and Carmona with 112 cases.

Of the total 3,379 cases, 33 individuals here are severe cases, while 2,126 (63 percent) have warning signs and 1,220 (38 percent) have no warning signs.
Eight individuals already died, including three in Trece Martires City, two in GMA, and one each in Silang, Carmona, and Bacoor.
According to Imus Mayor Alex Advincula, the dengue outbreak is not only in Cavite, but in Metro Manila as well. He said the Imus City Health Office and City Environment Office continues to conduct misting and fogging in every sitio and barangay.
