Coco Martin in 'Batang Quiapo'

MANILA, Philippines — "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" is officially coming to a close, actor-director Coco Martin confirmed as he shifts focus to a new series with partner Julia Montes.
Coco sat down for an interview with entertainment reporter MJ Felipe where the former discussed talks about the inevitable "Batang Quiapo" finale.
The actor admitted such rumors floated after conversations of a change in networks, although Coco assured there was no pressure from higher-ups to end the show.
However Coco felt that the series' story had runs it course especially after his character Tanggol supposedly lost the mayoral race and eventually confirmed that "Batang Quiapo" was indeed ending soon.
"Ngayong matatapos na ang 'Batang Quiapo,' hindi ko alam kung masaya ako o nalulungkot ako," Coco said, comparing the situation to losing a loved one.
Coco did say the ending of "Batang Quiapo" was better prepared than that of his previous show "Ang Probinsiyano" which ran for seven years.
"Batang Quiapo" will officially end on March 13 with its 799th episode closing seven seasons across a three-story arc.

Work won't stop for Coco, however, as starting March 16, the Monday after the "Batang Quiapo" finale, he will embark on a new show "Sigabo," with real-life partner Julia Montes.
The actor teased that "Sigabo" would be a newer, lighter television experience for audiences as it mixes romance, comedy, action, and drama, compared to his last two shows which were heavily action-drama.
"Iba naman, ibang flavor naman, ibang Coco naman makikita nila, ibang Julia naman makikita nila," he added, also teasing a funny cast with accompany the couple.
Coco explained that he waited for the right project to work with Julia again, having last starred together in a series in 2014's "Ikaw Lamang" (a quick run in "Ang Probinsiyano" aside).
Other projects the couple has done together were the show "Walang Hanggan" and the movies "A Moment in Time" and "Pula," the latter released on Netflix in 2024.
He joked that Julia immediately agreed to doing "Sigabo" with him but did say the actress was involved in conceptualizing the upcoming show.
MJ ended the interview by pointing out Coco has been the face of primetime television for a solid decade now, and the actor credited such success to the general masses.
