One seat in the Dagupan legislature goes to opposition Councilor Dada Reyna, preventing a clean sweep

PANGASINAN, Philippines – The ticket headed by Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez nearly made a complete sweep in the May 12 elections, save for the 10th city council seat.

The Fernandez-led  “Team Unliserbisyo” dominated Dagupan City’s ballots. They were proclaimed winners on Tuesday, May 13.

Fernandez received 81,977 votes against Celia Lim’s 42,200 votes.

Fernandez’s running mate and nephew, Bryan “BK” Kuya, garnered 64,516 votes against former mayor Marc Brian Lim, who got 56,936 votes.

Their ticket was composed mainly of returning and incumbent city councilors, along with three newcomers.

Councilor Michael Fernandez took the lead with 72,462 votes, followed by Joey Tamayo with 65,957 votes.

Newcomer Tala Paras placed third with 63,228 votes, followed by Jigs Seen with 62,683 votes.

Karlos Reyna ranked fifth with 61,468, followed by Danee Canto with 61,207.

Chito Samson placed seventh with 60,245; Marvin Fabia placed eighth with 59,318; and newcomer Doc Jaja placed ninth with 55,275.

The 10th spot went to opposition Councilor Dada Reyna, who received 52,516 votes.

Fernandez’s ally Joshua Bugayong, a former Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president in Dagupan City, failed to catch up, garnering 49,858 votes and settling for 11th place.

Celia Lim’s allies ranked 12th to 20th, while the last three places were taken by independent candidates.

This was Fernandez’s second overwhelming victory against the Lims since her comeback to the political fray in 2022 – defeating then-mayor Marc Brian Lim with  14,457 votes.

Fernandez was accompanied by Gina de Venecia, who also won the seat for representative of Pangasinan’s 4th District in a landslide victory against Alvin Fernandez. – Rappler.com
