It looks like Apple has retired the “S” in SE with the new iPhone 16e.

This is Apple’s newest entry level iPhone. Like much of Apple’s history of introducing the more “affordable” versions of iPhones, they continue to have an impressive specs sheet with a few features being stripped off from its flagship counterpart.

The iPhone 16e is modeled after the iPhone 14, so there’s that notch, in case you miss it. It’s powered by an A18 chip, which can also be found in the iPhone 16. This means, this device is also ready for Apple Intelligence. So if you’re interested in toying with the Image Playground, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, or have AI meddle with your emails and other written texts, then, it’s all here in the iPhone 16e for you to try out.

Most importantly, the iPhone 16e uses a USB-C port.

The iPhone 16e also goes somewhat retro by having a single rear camera set at 48MP. And the Action Button is present here, which allows you to customize your shortcuts.

It supports a 7.5W wireless charging but it has no MagSafe capabilities, which is both understandable and a shame. But we get it. Apple wants to ensure people keep on buying their more expensive models.

The iPhone 16e also seems to be Apple’s experimentation with some new hardware, as this device is the first to have an in-house modem. Meaning, Apple designed and built it on their own. Sadly, this also means that the iPhone 16E misses out on the ultra-wideband 5G and WiFi 7. But personally, I think that’s fine, because even with non-Ultra-Wide, 5G still has pretty impressive speeds.

There’s really nothing home to write about when it comes to memory, it’s just the usual suspects: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

As of this writing, the iPhone 16e starts at P39,999.

For a quick comparison, the iPhone 15 starts at P44,990.
