CEBU CITY — The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, a coalition of administration-backed senatorial candidates, cited the need for strategic reforms that will not only sustain Cebu's economic momentum but also address long-standing structural issues that hinder progress.

The 11-member Alyansa slate consists of political figures with extensive experience in governance and policymaking.

The lineup includes former interior secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Sen. Bong Revilla, Sen. Pia Cayetano, former senator Panfilo Lacson, Sen. Lito Lapid, and former senator Manny Pacquiao.

This also includes former Senate president Vicente Sotto III, Sen. Francis Tolentino, ACT-CIS Rep. and former Social Welfare secretary Erwin Tulfo, and Deputy Speaker Camille Villar.

The coalition believes that the senatorial candidates' collective expertise will enable them to push forward legislative measures aimed at strengthening Cebu's economy.

"As Cebu continues to be an economic powerhouse in the Visayas, Alyansa is committed to tapping its full potential through responsive leadership," said Alyansa campaign manager and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco.

He said that Cebu plays a crucial role in the nation's overall economic landscape and that the coalition seeks to implement policies that will enhance its position as a key growth center.

Alyansa's platform includes tackling Cebu's most pressing concerns, particularly in areas of infrastructure, transportation and disaster resilience.

Recognizing that the province frequently experiences natural calamities, the coalition aims to push policies that will enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.

Another focal point of the coalition's agenda is education.

Alyansa recognizes the importance of preparing a highly skilled workforce that can meet the growing demands of Cebu's booming business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology sectors.

By advocating for education reforms and vocational training programs, the coalition hopes to equip Cebuanos with the necessary competencies to secure better employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth.

Tourism is also a major component of Alyansa's plans for Cebu. Given the province's status as a premier tourist destination, the coalition seeks to enhance its appeal by implementing environmental protection initiatives.

These include solutions to combat pollution and ensure that Cebu's natural resources are preserved for future generations.

Sustainable tourism development, they argue, will not only boost the local economy but also safeguard Cebu's rich cultural and ecological heritage.

The coalition underscores the need to balance economic development with sustainability, ensuring that growth does not come at the expense of environmental degradation.

"Alyansa understands Cebu's challenges require strongly coordinated action across all levels of government, and our coalition is more than prepared to take on the challenges," Tiangco said.

He stressed that overcoming these issues requires collaboration between national and local governments, as well as active participation from the private sector and civil society.
