TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Five people were killed and nine were injured after a tourist van fell into a 50-meter ravine at around 10 p.m. on Friday in Sitio Ampawilen, Barangay Poblacion, Sadanga, Mountain Province.
Sadanga police said the van, with plate No. NDA 9883, came to rest in shallow river after the fall, instantly killing its driver and three passengers.
Declared dead on the spot were 45-year-old driver Vance Quinto Hernandez Jr. of Bulacan; 36-year-old Gerardo Navarro of Zamboanga; 36-year-old Veronica Hipolito of South Cotabato and an unidentified woman wearing gray shirt and black leggings.
Another passenger, Jay Niño Belando, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Bontoc General Hospital in Bontoc.

The police also identified the injured passengers as 45-year-old Mary Joy Reyes of Manila, 25-year-old Archie Reyes of Manila, 20-year-old Cherish Quimpan of Cavite, 26-year-old Manuel Lap of Batangas, 25-year-old Elvis Acupan of Ilocos Norte, 23-year-old Ham Sua of Tagaytay City, 23-year-old Arlette Sarmiento of Ilocos Norte; 20-year-old Christine Cuidamat of Tagaytay City, and 24-year-old Dan Dacoycoy of Ilocos Norte.
The group of tourists were headed to Tinglayan, Kalinga to visit famed tattoo artist Whang-od Oggay in Barangay Buscalan when the accident took place.
The Police did not say what caused the accident but said a thorough investigation is ongoing.
